We all need extra support from time to time as well as time and space to talk through difficulties that we may be experiencing.

Counselling is a talking therapy that offers the time and space needed to talk through any worries or concerns you may have, especially if you are unable to talk to your friends and family.

Elizabeth Hancock
Counsellor MBACP (Accred)

I have always had a great interest in counselling which led me on to starting my

counselling career in 2006.

I work as a Person-Centred counsellor and EMDR therapist within Catterick Garrison, Richmond and surrounding areas. Person-centred counselling empowers the client to understand and make sense of their problems, without feeling judged, within a confidential and safe environment.

During my career I have worked with some of the following areas: trauma, domestic abuse, anxiety, depression, bereavement, low self-esteem, relationship issues and couples therapy.

For the past 9 years I have worked closely with veterans, serving, and families of those whom have served/are serving in the military. During this time I have worked with individuals with complex PTSD, trauma and other mental health conditions.

Working in this field has helped me to understand the military ethos, the camaraderie between soldiers and the effects of transition out of the military.

I hold a qualification in supervision. I work from a person centred approach, however I also have extensive training in compassion focussed therapy and creative supervision.

Along with my counselling, EMDR and supervision qualifications, I am a Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) and Suicide First Aid (SFA) Trainer. I currently offer the MHFA 2 day Adult and Armed Forces courses through MHFA England and the 1 day Understanding Suicide Intervention and Lite courses through Suicide First Aid.

All courses are available online and face to face.

What is Counselling?

Counselling encourages self-expression, self-awareness, self-development and a greater understanding of self.
It recognises and values the client, allows barriers to be broken down and the learning of self to begin.
It is the genuineness and intimacy of the client/counsellor relationship that makes person-centred counselling so special. The focus of person-centred counselling is always on the client's own thoughts and feelings, not those of the counsellor.

Testimonials

"When i came to see Elizabeth at Evolution Counselling Services i didn't really know how to deal with the feelings i was left with when a relationship broke down.  Despite a lot of time passing i couldn't seem to work out how to move forward with my life.  Elizabeth provided me a private space to be able to talk openly about how i felt and she enabled me to see things from a different perspective.  This allowed me to deal with my feelings and to move foward.  I wouldn't hesitate in reccommending Elizabeth to anyone who feels they need to speak to a counsellor about any issue in their life."

When I first met Elizabeth I didnt think I could feel any lower and my self confidence was rock bottom. Having had unsuccesful counselling before I wasnt hopeful that I would be able to change. However a year later Elizabeth has helped me to finally feel proud of who I am. Elizabeth helped me realise just how many negative feelings I had and to think about where these feelings came from. She was always a friendly and positive face after a hard or difficult day and I always felt I could be totally honest with her. I feel that Elizabeth has helped me get back on my feet and ready to fight life's challenges and  I can't thank her enough for her support.
